Where Are The Laborers?

Can a true believer show signs of LAZINESS in the church? Now, please understand, this subject is not to imply that there is a spirit of laziness in the church but it does seem to show itself. This is a touchy question that many pastors and leaders deal with daily in the basic format of the church.
This subject sparks a question that settles in the back of our minds when you are trying to move forward with developing outreach, teaching , or even simple programs in the church. You have the needed format for a subject or program and you have presented it to the pastor. So all systems are go!! But wait a minute… where are the helpers? Where are those that are excited about getting things done for the sake of just working for the Glory of God? So you ask and ask for help. Just like the pastor… the difference is that many pastors will stop asking and try to do it all themselves. They kind of foresee the slow motion response of their congregants and just try to move on without seeking more help.
That’s sad to say but let’s be real about the working atmosphere that exists in some of our churches. What causes the disinterest to help or even offer support? There is only one conclusion that comes to mind in many cases… LAZINESS!!!! (Lack of willing Workers!!!
Let me explain a bit further so there is no misunderstanding about where this article is going. Our churches (God’s Body) needs to have in place servants that are willing to do whatever is needed in order to put God’s program over. That program ultimately is the assignment placed on the church today to share and teach the Gospel of Jesus. We are to be constantly preparing for the harvest God has for us.
Matthew 9:36-38 states, “36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; 38 therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to …
This text refers to the many souls that needed to be brought to repentance and faith in Christ as a harvest waiting to be gathered. This is in the spiritual harvest that was assigned to each of us to carry out. But its sad to say, the workers for this harvest have become even less focused on the task at hand. Could this be another one of those B.U.G.S. (Being Under The Grip Of Satan). It certainly looks like it!!!
So where does laziness come in to the picture? The laborers or servants available to the church (body of Christ), are not very available when it comes to the work assignment. It seems that we (Body of Christ) have taken on the spirit of “Laziness” . Laziness is a lifestyle that some people really master. Yet there are also those that allow laziness to become more of a temptation than anything. We choose to be lazy when the desire to work in God’s kingdom is too hard or not understood!!
This is just another one of those B.U.G.S. (Being Under The Grip Of Satan). The choice that you make can stunt your spiritual blessings in the future. There can be no harvest if you choose not to labor or plow in season. No labor… No harvest!!!
So lets talk about the spiritual aspect of LAZINESS! Is it a real issue in the body of Christ?
Short answer …YES!!
The strain of carrying on the ministry or assignment of teaching and preaching the Gospel had taken its toll on the pastors or leaders of the the church. When looking around for laborers to carry out the assignment God has given, there are too few people to choose from. It seems they expect more recognition and payment for services they do than offering themselves as a servant of Christ.
There is a harvest for us gather! Where are the laborers?
We are faced with the dilemma of carrying out a God given task without any or very few helpers. So you do see how this type of issue weighs heavily on true pastors and leaders in todays church. We must see and understand that you need the whole body in order to work efficiently in sharing the gospel. Laziness or unwillingness to serve has become another one of those B.U.G.S. (Being Under The Grip Of Satan).
We become comfortable with us barely getting things done. Satan uses this tactic to distract us from the task at hand. This is one of those B.U.G.S. that surely needs our attention. We are losing dedicated pastors everyday because of the stress of carrying the ministry alone or with so few workers.
So is it lack of understanding on our part or just plain “Laziness?”
This article is written to bring to the forefront the battle the church is dealing with in order to survive and carry out God’s assignment. Ignoring it will only hinder the work of the body of Christ.
Please understand, this article is not to say that you are lazy…but it is to identify the possibility that you may be playing a part in hindering the vision and mission of your church. This is even more evident when we are not that worker that’s needed to gather the harvest.
Here is another aspect of the assignment set before us. It’s alright to be the one that works or offers your help in sowing the seed of Christ. You can also help in watering those seeds sent your way by teaching and developing their faith. There are many babes in Christ tat need guidance and teaching which will develop them into mature believers of Christ. But then again, Where are the laborers?
All of us need the love and fellowship of other believers in order to make this journey less stressful. But again, Where are the laborers?? Where are the believers???
In this walk, we must persevere. The journey is long but finishing strong has a reward. We can’t slack up now when the harvest has grown so big. each seed needs someone to help in harvesting their soul. Who will roll up your sleeves and prepare for the works ahead of us as believers.
Galatians 6:9 states, “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” It is no time to get weary! In due season, there will be a reward. Let’s refocus ourselves and get back on tract in getting the harvest ready to be gathered. Matthew 9:38 states, “therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”
We must pray for more laborers!! The assignment will not change!
Thank you for listening…
