“ROLL IT OVER”

Updated: Jul 16, 2022

Well, it’s right at the end of another year. Many people are already making those New Year resolutions that they will probably not be able to keep or will find them fizzing out before the year gets started good. This is a tradition that seems to keep occurring even when the success rate is very low.

I am sure from the title of this article that you are wondering how such a title came about. While reading in the bible and searching for something or some guidance and direction for the new year, this passage of scripture, Proverbs 16:3, appeared. A lot of questions also began to flood my mind as I read the words that were so beautifully placed in position for the reader.

Proverbs 16:3 states, “Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.”

Of course, this was a great place to ask those questions that seem to linger in our minds. What was this passage of scripture trying to say to us, “Believers in Christ”? Why was this particular scripture sticking in my mind? Obviously, it was time to do some digging.

The word “COMMIT”… let’s start there. What does this word actually mean? After doing some more reading, I found that “Commit” actually is a verb. That lets me know right there that it was meant to insight movement. The meaning that really got my attention is when it said that it means “to roll over” or to “roll over to God”. It also means “to give in charge” or “entrust”. In this verse of scripture, the word “commit” comes from a Hebrew root Galalwhich implies or meansroll-away. All of this information just started me to think about what God had prepared for me to glean from this passage of scripture.

As I stated at the beginning of this article, the New Year brings with it the process of making resolutions, starting the year out with goals, and the idea of being better in our lives. Yet, I had to stop for a moment to understand what God had prepared for us as believers in our walk for the New Year.

When I read this scripture, Proverbs 16:3, immediately there was a need to share the revelation of “commitment”. The idea of “rolling something over” really got my attention!! God wanted us to know that in order to accomplish the things we set out to do in life, we must first know where God comes into play with it. Anything that we do in life has to have a beginning in order to get to the end result. This scripture lets you know that whatever our plans are in life, they can only be accomplished when we “GET UP” and start the work. There is no easy way to be successful. Success comes to those that are willing to work hard and not take on the characteristics of a “SLUGGARD”.

Commitment comes from hard work and having our priorities in line with God’s purpose for our lives. We must do the work first or rather do the first part of the work or assignment in order for God to do His part of the work. If and when we do this, God will “Establish” us. Just so you don’t misunderstand the language here, God will cause things to happen. When God establishes your ways, He will “BRING ABOUT” things.

There must be a firm agreement between you and God. It is this agreement that will cause you to grow and multiply all that you do. He will bring into existence that which you can’t achieve on your own. You will be placed in a position that will stand as solid proof that God is who He says. Your ways will be established for His purpose. You just can’t get any better than that!!

When we align our work with God’s will, we will experience success!! Yet, you must keep in mind that achieving success does not exclude the presence of trouble. We will have trouble in our lives as we walk with Christ. I am sure all who are reading this know this as a true factor in living for Christ. But we must remember the scripture,

Romans 8:28 states, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

Now to get to the meaning “to roll”.

The New Year will bring with it challenges and tests for each of us but we must learn how to “COMMIT”… “ROLL IT OVER” to God. Whatever goals we set in life will have the tendency to fail when we don’t allow our lives to be committed to Christ.

When faced with adversity –“ROLL IT OVER” to GOD!!

When faced with constantly being told you are wrong when choosing Christ, “ROLL IT OVER” to GOD!!

When our life choices seem to always end in disaster, “ROLL IT OVER” to GOD!!

When you seem to have trouble with finding solutions to simple problems, “ROLL IT OVER” to GOD!!

When it seems like you are not having the success you expect, “ROLL IT OVER” to GOD!!

When life always seems to throw you a curveball, “ROLL IT OVER” to GOD!!

When you become weary from the walk-in Christ, “ROLL IT OVER” to GOD!!

When you can’t find peace in your soul and mind, “ROLL IT OVER” to GOD!!

When your decisions become indecisive and hopeless, “ROLL IT OVER” to GOD!!

If you are now understanding the purpose of this verse of scripture, read the rest of the chapter. You will find comfort in knowing that all you have to do is “ROLL IT OVER” to GOD!!

This blog was the beginning of social media posts created for the sole purpose of encouraging other believers in Christ. It really started out in mediation of how God compares us as believers to sheep in the Bible. I was so amazed by the comparison that I continued to research it for my own benefit. It was during that process that I learned about the damage a bug can do to a sheep if it ever gets into his head. This sparked a platform for all the things I, an avid believer in Christ, needed to share with others or rather anyone that would listen.
