Defending Your Faith – Apologetics

Updated: Jan 10, 2022

It is very apparent in the world of Christianity that followers of Christ want to be the one and only system of belief. There seems to be an attack on the foundation of belief when it comes to true followers of Christ. Yes, everyone wants to believe that they have the best solution to the world’s religious platform. There exists a will to defend our faith or personal belief system without considering the impact it plays on the hearer. In essence, what this article intends to reveal is the truth about “defending our faith.”

Before we begin this discussion, let’s place the idea in the category of B.U.G.S. (Being Under The Grip Of Satan). It is important that a believer understand the attacks of Satan. Attacks that can twist the Word of God to fit a simple-minded view in order to get a point across. The attack, (trick) doesn’t have effect unless one believes or allows it to overshadow the right thing to do. This is a tactic that Satan uses when believers go on there own reasoning an not God’s word!! It is here that Satan’s grip on our minds will reveal itself. We must be more attentive to his tricks. After all, it’s spiritual warfare that we must engage in as believers.

The topic for discussion today is the term, “Apologetics”. What is it? Why is it important to explore its principles? Should we as believers know about this thing called “Apologetics”?

Let’s start with what it means. “Apologetics” or “Christian Apologetics” is the science of giving a defense for your Christian faith. It’s obvious that this word is derived from the word “apology”. Although this is an English word, it actually comes from the Greek interpretation that means, “to give a defense”.

Well, here we go. Defending something that we believe is right!! Are we defending our faith because we believe no one else is right? Are we defending our faith because of the attack of worldly critics and skeptics? Are we promoting the Christian faith or being combative because of false teaching and doctrines?

Now, let’s think about this for a moment!! Please understand, we should call out the truth when it’s not doctrinally sound according to the Word of God, but there is a proper way to do this,

I Peter 3:15 states, “but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,”

What does this really mean??

If you are an acclaimed believer, you should be equipped and able to explain and defend the true Christian faith. If you can’t, then one would say that you are not a true follower that has built a relationship with Christ which involves knowing enough of the Word of God to answer the simplistic questions about salvation. That is what we are talking about, right? Defending the true Christian doctrine of the plan of salvation. If you can’t do this, then why and what are you following? Remember, it’s one of those B.U.G.S. (Being Under The Grip Of Satan)!

True believers will know The Who, what, when, and hows of what they believe. Think about it, how can you recognize the attackers of lies and false doctrine if you are too lazy or caught up in life that you ignor the defense needed for correction?

People of God, no one ever said the defending your faith involved being rude, disrespectful, aggressive, angry, and even fighting. It’s never a debate, people of God!!

I Peter 3:15, “yet do it with gentleness and respect,”

The Bible (Word Of God) provides more than enough proof of the plan of salvation. Assumptions and preconceived ideas or rituals are a part of the whole concept of “Apologetics”. We must ask God for direction on how to defend our faith properly. This process will surely reveal itself as each of us develops a relationship with Christ.

We can defend our faith by how we live daily. That includes how we worship. There will always be critics and false teachers in this world but our instruction is clear. Read it again, 1 Peter 3:15!!

If we intend to participate in all aspects of this Christian journey, let’s know some of the tactics used. Know what certain terms mean and how they affect our faith. There shouldn’t be any guessing in the task we are assigned to do…

Matthew 28:19 states, Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,”

Stay focused on the assignment!! Otherwise, there will be many more B.U.G.S. (Being Under The Grip Of Satan) in your journey. Our defense for our faith is knowing all we can about our plan of Salvation, JESUS!

No Apology is needed!!!

About Me

This blog was the beginning of social media posts created for the sole purpose of encouraging other believers in Christ. It really started out in mediation of how God compares us as believers to sheep in the Bible. I was so amazed by the comparison that I continued to research it for my own benefit. It was during that process that I learned about the damage a bug can do to a sheep if it ever gets into his head. This sparked a platform for all the things I, an avid believer in Christ, needed to share with others or rather anyone that would listen.
