Are You Really “Letting Go”?

Have we as believers in God considered the overwhelming effect that our words have on our lives? When we say that we are “letting go” of something, do we really mean it? Or is it just a common phrase in the English language that we use to express our discontentment or frustration. It’s even more detrimental to us when we add “let God” to it. Do we really know what we have just said? Do we understand the weight that this type of statement carries with it?

Let’s discuss the concept of “Letting Go”.

Here is a definition that I really love…To stop physically holding on to someone or something.

Let’s think about this for a moment. The phrase means “to stop holding on to something“. It also says that one has to stop physically holding on to that thing. So if we say we are “letting go” of something, then we must come to the agreement that we are physically releasing the grip that thing has on us.

So here we are again! It’s another one of those “B.U.G.S.! (Being Under The Grip Of Satan)

It’s not a good place to be when you find yourself under Satan’s grip. Although this topic may seem harmless, it is definitely not. Sometimes even common practices can become a source for Satan to work. What is so unfortunate is that we can give Satan permission to work while we are in a critical state.

Now let’s look at this phrase, how it’s used, and more explanation concerning its true meaning. Let’s start with what “Letting Go” doesn’t mean:

  1. It doesn’t mean you have “released” in God and you have nothing else to do with it…

Releasing must involve making room to grow in areas in your life so that you are better prepared for what may come

  1. It doesn’t mean that you don’t have to put more effort into this area of your life

It is now that your efforts are turned to growing in God and learning how to use your Spiritual Weapons. Get the dust off of your weapons…keep them well oiled and ready for battle…don’t be complacent and lazy in using your spiritual weapons.

  1. It doesn’t mean you can sit back and relax letting God so all the work

Relaxing in God is not the same as resting so you don’t have any more work to do – think about where you are lacking in your faith and do something about it

  1. It doesn’t mean that you have no authority in the matter (God’s authority).

God has given us the authority to defeat Satan and his tactics. Use your authority when needed – Make sure Satan is not given more ground to work in your life!!

  1. We must not believe that the struggle is over and the will to strive for more of God lays dormant in your life

A struggle means that there is a forceful or violent force to get free from something that is retraining us. The restraint can many times be multiplied by Satan’s tricks and tactics. We must know or be able to identify the works of Satan (B.U.G.S.). Don’t allow the struggle to overshadow the desire to do God’s will. Don’t get lost in the struggle!!

  1. Again, it doesn’t mean you can sit and wait … you should continue to strive to be more diligent, active, and prayerful

-Sometimes we may feel that there is nothing more to do once we have consulted God on a matter…but think about the responsibility each of us have to not only realize what is happening in our lives but to also do something about it. We must continue to strive in accomplishing God’s purpose for us. It’s no time to be lazy or reserved about our walk

  1. It doesn’t imply that the struggles you are having are suddenly disappearing

We must remember that struggles don’t always disappear instantly. There is a “growing out of the struggle” that we must understand and learn. This learning process comes with our dedication to knowing God more each day.

All of this may seem to be a little on the firm awaking side but don’t fret, there is more to add to this process.

“Letting Go” is a very much needed process in our lives but it must be handled properly and prayerfully.

Understand that this is another one of those B.U.G.S. (Being Under The Grip Of Satan) that exists in the Christian environment. We must identify even the simple things that can grow into massive destructive elements in our lives.

God wants to use us in His purpose. We must be in a place that we realize we are the vessel and God needs room to pour into us. When we say we are “Letting Go”, we are making a firm statement that God has room to work and teach us how to make it through the struggle or issue we are facing. It is when we fail to allow our vessel (spiritual body) to be used by God for His purpose that we continue to hold on instead of “Letting Go”.

It is hard to pour into a vessel or bottle when it is completely full of another substance. The bottle has to make room for any additional substance to be added. The difference in this analogy is that God wants to continue to pour into us the necessary components for our walk with Him daily. When there is no room for Him to pour into us, there is also no room available for growth. We must learn to take the CAP off of the bottle. Stop putting a CAP on God!! Taking the CAP off allows God room to continually flow through us. Our vessels are always full of Him. There is a continuous stream of God through us daily.

We should strive each day to learn more about God and allow Him to pour more into us.

Luke 13:24 states …”Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.

Again, we should not sit by and wait with the idea that there is nothing for us to do but we should be even more diligent, active, and faithful. Struggles come only to make us stronger in God. We must be sure we are a vessel ready to receive all that God has to pour into us. Striving and working in the kingdom of God is necessary.

We should never use the phrase “Letting Go” if our intentions are to be relieved of the presence of struggles in our lives. We should think of it as an experience we must encounter in order to grow in God.

Romans 8:26 states…“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

Sometimes this scripture is hard to absorb if we are not truly placing our trust in God. The more we trust and know about God, the more our struggles will become easier to get through.

Phil. 4:7 states …”And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Remember that “Letting Go” means releasing yourself to God’s will and allowing Him to mold and strengthen you into the believer He desires for His purpose.

Trust me, I do understand why the phrase, “I’m Letting It Go” or “I’m Giving It To God” can become so common among believers of Christ. Our faith dictates how we respond to the tests and trials in our lives. But, please understand…we can’t speak things into existence unless our faith matches the feat set before us. In other words, we can’t just talk faith but we have to live it and built it daily by the tests and trials we are destined to experience. This is how God molds and shapes us into the creatures He desires and fulfills His purpose.

There will be things we will not fully grasp when going through a test or trial, but there is one thing for sure, our tests come to make us. We must make sure we have room left in our vessels for God to fill us up with what we need. There must always be room for growth in this spiritual walk. We can’t just come to church and call it walking with Jesus. There has to be a relationship developed between you and God in order to walk as a true believer.

If we are in the process of “Letting Go“, make sure you are truly letting God teach you how to move forward. Let God teach you how to settle and rest during a test or trial. Sometimes we can think that we are “Giving It To God” when all we are actually doing is making a loud sound that has no meaning.

Why So?

We forget that when we give something away, it’s not proper to go back to get it. Giving something away means that it no longer belongs to you. If you pick that thing up again, then you didn’t actually give it away. Maybe it sounded good to say it but in reality saying and doing are two very different things.

When giving something to God, we must be prepared to allow Him room to work and teach us how to deal with the situation at hand. When there is no room made, then no space has been allotted for the potter to form us into greater things.

We can’t always have it our way when it comes to winning in this spiritual war. This is another one of those B.U.G.S. (Being Under The Grip Of Satan) whose main goal is to steal your joy, kill your zeal and peace of mind.

It sort of reminds you of the Israelites, they wanted their freedom but in the end, really had not trusted God enough to deliver them to the promised land. The freedom they experienced also required obedience. They were more than willing to get out of the situation they were in but were soon weary of the journey before them. To really sum it up, we must trust God all the way when we say we are putting our situation in His hands.

If you are experiencing things in your life that have brought you to the decision that you are “Letting Go”, make sure you do just that!! You should make room for God to teach and guide you. Most of all, never stop working and giving in His kingdom.

About Me

This blog was the beginning of social media posts created for the sole purpose of encouraging other believers in Christ. It really started out in mediation of how God compares us as believers to sheep in the Bible. I was so amazed by the comparison that I continued to research it for my own benefit. It was during that process that I learned about the damage a bug can do to a sheep if it ever gets into his head. This sparked a platform for all the things I, an avid believer in Christ, needed to share with others or rather anyone that would listen.
